Get Your Chalk on this weekend in the Loop!

 

 

Get Your Chalk On! The Loop’s first chalk festival will be held on September 3rd (Rain Date: Sept. 4th).

Each participating artist will check in beginning at 9am at Chuck Berry Plaza- which is conveniently located next to Fitz’s at 6605 Delmar.  Each participating artist will receive their location of where to draw their sidewalk chalk art, and a box of chalk the morning of the event.  Artists will be able to sign up at a fee of $10 for adults; $8 for students ( ages 13-18); $2 for children under 12.

 

Awards will be given for chalk drawing in 4 categories:  Best Walk of Fame Theme, Best Loop Theme, Most Creative, and Viewer’s Choice.   A variety of prizes will be given for each winning artist including Gift Certificates from the events Main Sponsor Blick’s Art Supplies located at 6300 Delmar.  A variety of other gift certificates will be provided by Loop businesses, and of course CASH PRIZES! The winning artist in each category will be featured on The Loop website with a photos of their winning artwork, a story about their artistic background, and a link to their portfolio or personal website.

 

 

When you register you will be asked to sign up for one of the following categories:

Best of The Loop Theme- Did you know that The Loop was designated “One of the 10 Great streets in America” by the American Planning Association?  What do you like most about The Loop?

Chalk of Fame- Pick someone from the St. Louis Walk of Fame and embody an important aspect of their life or their achievements in your artwork.  http://stlouiswalkoffame.org/inductees/

Most Creative- If a picture is worth a 1000 words, express your most creative side and tell us a story through your chalk drawing.

Chalk Land- This is the kids area for all children 12 and under.

The prize for the most love (and a little creativity and video savvy) is Free Rent For A Year at the Laurel Apartments in Downtown’s Mercantile Exchange District!

Contest Details
The Laurel Apartments will run a city-wide ‘Lovin the Lou’ video contest for an incredible opportunity to live rent-free for one year at The Laurel Apartments in Downtown St. Louis. The winner will also be the featured blogger on the’ Lovin the Lou Blog’ which will chronicle their crazy cool adventures and experiences around their new neighborhood in Downtown St. Louis.

This contest is an effort to identify what makes St. Louis unique and remarkable and to find the next ambassador for St. Louis. The Laurel Apartments is asking St. Louisans to submit a 2-minute video that captures how they are Lovin the Lou!

“We want to showcase the people and character that make St. Louis, especially downtown, a great place to live and work,” said Melissa DeCicco, Marketing Director for Mills Properties, “We know it’s fabulous, but it is time for us to show and tell!"

  1. Upload your video to YouTube.
  2. Fill out the entry form on lovinthelou.com which includes submitting the link to your YouTube Lovin the Lou video by October 5th.
  3. Videos will be showcased each week of the contest on lovinthelou.com.

The winner will be announced at The Laurel Grand Opening celebration in mid-October.

Slow Down and look at the stars tonight with some experts! The St. Louis Astronomical Society will be stargazing under the Arch!

Join the St. Louis Astronomical Society and the National Park Service for an evening of stargazing on the grounds of the St. Louis Gateway Arch from 7:30 through 10:30.

 

The sun will be setting at 8:27 tonight so there won't be much stargazing until then!

Who likes Board Games?!?! Classic Board Game night and Brewery Tour @Schlafly this Wednesday!

 It is time for all of us game lover's to get together and have a night of friendly competition!


Any and all games are welcome - seriously all types! So bring along what you would like to play and let's just have an evening of social fun!

We will have a free Brewery Tour and Tasting at 5:30pm! ***Please read below for more details***

We will have tables reserved in their bar area - so just look for the table sign and all the board games ;)

***ABOUT THE TOUR AND TASTING:***
Schlafly is going to be giving us a free tour and sampling of their beers an hour before our actual event!

Tour Schlafly Bottleworks! Join us for a free brewery tour of Schlafly Bottleworks and see what “Bottled With Love” is all about. See how they handcraft each batch of Schlafly Beer on our hour-long FREE guided tour and tasting. The tour begins in their museum exhibit (aka: the “brewseum”) dedicated to the rich brewing history of the city of St. Louis.From there they’ll walk us through their brewery and you’ll hear about every step of the Schlafly brewing process as well as see the brewhouse, tanks and packaging equipment up close. The tour concludes with complimentary samples of several styles of fresh, cold Schlafly Beer.

NOTE:
Due to safety concerns, we cannot allow individuals wearing open toed shoes into the brewhouse. We’ll lend you some Crocs (seriously), but wouldn’t you rather wear your own shoes?
